Iran to continue uranium work

Tehran: Iran's foreign minister said on Tuesday the country would not suspend uranium enrichment.

The statement comes a day after world powers agreed to work on a new UN resolution to pressure Tehran to give up its nuclear ambitions.

"Suspending uranium enrichment is an illegal and illegitimate demand ... and it will never happen," said Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.

Officials from five permanent UN Security Council Members – the United States, France, Russia, China, Britain and Germany - met in London on Monday to discuss the Iranian crisis.

Russia has voiced concern about growing talk of military strikes and China again called on Tuesday for a diplomatic solution.

The United Nations imposed limited sanctions against Iran, which faces possible further steps for ignoring a February 21 deadline to stop enrichment.
