Hezbollah's resistance prompts it to be on "high alert" to face any aggression against the country's sovereignty, an MP from the group's bloc said yesterday.

"We can say that resistance is carrying out its duty in this stage," said Ali Ammar in an interview with Gulf News. "Its duty requires it be at the highest level of readiness to face any aggression that infringes its sovereignty."

Resistance will draw its draggers, he continued, "as long as Israel occupies Lebanese land, violates our country's sovereignty and keeps Lebanese prisoners."

Asked whether he expects tensions to escalate with Israel, Ammar said, "This depends on Israel, which has to abandon to its policy of aggression and daily violations".

The Lebanese group blamed Israel for Monday's clashes.

Ammar denied reports that Israeli warplanes raided southern Lebanon.

"What happened was that an Israeli rocket from Monday's confrontation exploded yesterday".
