Dubai: A drug-addicted father in Egypt’s Giza province left his five-year-old son as collateral for a dose of crystal meth, only for the child to be beaten to death by a dealer trying to silence his cries.

The case came to light when residents of Kerdasa district reported a foul odour coming from a side street.

On inspection, authorities found the decomposed body of a small boy stuffed inside a bag and abandoned by the roadside.

The discovery shocked the neighbourhood and sparked widespread fear.

Police investigations revealed that the father, addicted to methamphetamine — locally known as “ice” — had been unable to pay for drugs and left his son with the dealer as a guarantee.

Alone and frightened, the boy reportedly broke down in tears. In response, the dealer struck him on the head, killing him instantly.

Local media reported that the dealer and an accomplice tried to cover up the crime by wrapping the body and dumping it in the street. Both were arrested shortly after the discovery.

The father later confessed during questioning, admitting that the boy had been born out of an unregistered customary marriage and never had a birth certificate.

He told investigators that he had left his son in the dealer’s custody in exchange for a dose of drugs, only to learn later of the child’s death.
