Baghdad: A car bomb killed at least three people on Wednesday in an attack on police vehicles near a busy market in northern Baghdad, a witness said.

Police said there had been an explosion in the Suleikh district, adding 10 people had been wounded. The witness told Reuters he had seen at least three badly burned bodies and two police vehicles ablaze.

Thousands of US and Iraqi troops are pressing ahead with an offensive around Baghdad aimed at Sunni Islamist Al Qaida militants blamed for the majority of car bombs in the city that incite sectarian hatred and are pushing Iraq towards civil war.
