12 killed as truck bomb hits Iraq army base

Baghdad: A suicide truck bomber killed 12 Iraqi soldiers and wounded 30 in an attack on an army checkpoint southwest of Baghdad on Saturday, police said.

Military and medical sources said the huge explosion happened at an Iraqi army base near the town of Iskandiriyah, killing 12 soldiers and wounding 30.

Soldiers were digging through the rubble and the death toll was expected to rise, police said.
