1 killed, 4 people wounded in Gaza blast

Gaza City: Hamas security officials say an Israeli tank shell has exploded in a Gaza village, killing one person and wounding four other people.

The Israeli military said soldiers came under fire from Palestinian militants across the border in central Gaza and returned the fire, but they did not use tank shells.

Palestinian Health Ministry official Dr. Moaiya Hassanain said one of the wounded on Thursday was a relative of the dead girl.

There have been sporadic border clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants since Israel ended a devastating three-week offensive in Gaza in January, aimed at stopping Palestinian rocket attacks on southern Israel.
