Riyadh: A Saudi man has been sent to court after he was caught on a surveillance camera throwing a hammer at his wife during an argument, Saudi newspaper Okaz reported Wednesday.

The hammer was thrown at her as she was waiting for her driver, according to the report.

The wife survived the attack and later filed a legal complaint demanding the maximum penalty against her husband.

The man was previously convicted in assault cases, according to prosecutors.

It was not immediately clear when the trial will start or what penalty he faces if convicted.

The kingdom’s general prosecution is coordinating with the Ministry of Labour and Social Development to curb domestic violence and an all-out enforcement of the country’s social protection system, the paper said.

Saudi authorities have, in recent months, unmasked several cases of domestic violence and have prosecuted the husbands.
