Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli plan to evict Palestinians

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has rejected the Israeli plan to evict Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem and impose Israeli sovereignty over them, following a night of violence in the holy city, local media reported.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Saudi foreign ministry said the Kingdom condemns all unilateral measures, violations of international resolutions, and everything that may undermine the chances of resuming the peace process to achieve security and stability in the region.

The foreign ministry reiterated that the Kingdom stands with the Palestinians, and supports all efforts aimed at reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which will enable the Palestinians to establish their independent homeland based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Israeli police fired rubber-coated metal bullets and stun grenades towards rock-hurling Palestinian youth at Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa mosque late on Friday. The clashes at Islam’s third holiest site and around East Jerusalem, which injured 205 Palestinians and 17 police officers, came amid mounting anger over the planned evictions, according to Reuters.
