Dubai: A massive traffic jam clogged the King Fahd Causeway linking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain over the weekend after an online system outage disrupted e-Government services in the island nation.

Bahrain’s e-Government Authority announced the temporary suspension of all digital services, including the national portal for government applications, citing maintenance and system upgrades aimed at improving service efficiency.

The authority assured that efforts were underway to restore operations as soon as possible.

Despite all lanes and toll booths being operational, travellers faced long delays on the bridge, a key artery connecting the two Gulf states.

The congestion was particularly severe as weekend traffic surged. King Fahd Causeway frequently experiences bottlenecks during peak travel times and holiday periods.

Authorities have been working on plans to enhance the bridge’s infrastructure and streamline traffic management to ease congestion.

Previous proposals have included expanding lanes and upgrading digital processing systems to cut wait times.
