Proceeds to go to social security beneficiaries
Cairo: Around 24 million Saudi riyals were collected in the first half of the Ramadan via a mobile application for paying Zakat, a government agency has disclosed.
The General Authority of Zakat and Tax (GAZT) added that the sum had been raised via the Zakati (My alms giving) app uploaded by more than 55,000 persons on their smart phones to facilitate the online payment of alms.
The collected money will be delivered to people covered by the social security programme overseen by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
The app was the latest electronic service launched by GAZT using the state-of-the-art technology to cope with the kingdom’s precautions to limit the spread of the new coronavirus. The app also features a reminder of the Zakat due timings and related information about such payments.
The GAZT has also set up the special ZAKATI phone number 19993 to answer queries on alms giving during the month of Ramadan.
