Three generations of artists will come together at the India Club tomorrow during a Child Art Workshop. The youngest are Chandeep, 10, and Ashdeep, 8, and the oldest - their grandfather
The remarkable talents of three generations of artists are to be celebrated in a Child Art Workshop at Dubai this week. Displaying their creations for the first time will be the youngest members of the Seth family - Chandeep, aged 10, and his sister Ashdeep aged 8.
Their work is going on show at the India Club tomorrow alongside the paintings of their architect father, Manupriam, and their grandfather Sumanav, a veteran artist from India.
The free, one'day event starts at 11am with an introduction by Abdul Rahim Salem, chairman of the Emirates Fine Art Society.
It will be followed by a slide show and talk by Sumanav featuring paintings by his son Manupriam from childhood to now, and looking at how children's artistic abilities develop.
Like father, like children
Harpreet Seth, mother of Chandeep and Ashdeep, says husband Manupriam had his first exhibition at the age of three so it was only natural their children would follow suit.
She says: "We decided they had enough paintings to be displayed and the timing was right as their grandfather is visiting at the moment. Because I and my husband both paint, if we were working in the studio, we would just hand them a paper and pen and they have just come on from there."
Retrospective
The retrospective show highlights the children's work from the tender age of one to the present day.
It shows various stages of ability and expression through drawing at different ages.
Using pencils, crayons, pens, acrylics and watercolours, the Seth children have captured incidents in their lives from music concerts to picnics on the beach.
As well as taking in the paintings at the event, visitors young and old are encouraged to try their hand using a range of mediums on tee'shirts, cards or paper during workshops throughout the afternoon.
Harpreet wanted to offer the hands-on experience at the event as she feels children in Dubai are not widely exposed to art.
She says: "Sometimes parents don't really let their children have fun with art. The workshops will hopefully show the children they can be creative in any form and they will really enjoy it."
All are welcome to the event. It will run from 11am to 5pm in Mehfil Hall 2 at the India Club, Oud Metha Road, in Bur Dubai.
