Cairo: Qatar has approved emergency use of the Moderna vaccine against COVID-19, becoming the second approved for use in the country.

Last December, Qatar authorised the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for a mass inoculation campaign that kicked off that month.

Clinical trials

The Health Ministry said it has granted authorisation for the emergency use of Moderna, manufactured by a US-based company of the same name, after the ministry’s Health and Pharmaceutical Control Directorate had conducted a “precise and intensive review” and assessment of findings of the clinical trials carried out on tens of thousands of volunteers.

Qatar so far has reported a total of 155,453 virus cases and 253 related deaths.
