Muscat The only son of an Omani educationist was killed In a horrific accident on Sunday night in Qurum area of Muscat.
Tareq Bin Munir Al Maskari, 28, was driving a sports sedan when he hit a concrete road divider at a fork that splits the Sultan Qaboos High Street.
“The impact of the collision with the divider was very strong and probably at a high speed,” said a Royal Oman Police (ROP) spokesperson Monday.
Tareq, who worked for Carillion Alawi for their contract as Facility Managers of the BankMuscat headquarters building, was taken to the accident and trauma specialty Khoula Hospital where he died later.
'A thorough gentleman'
“He was a thorough gentleman and very good human being,” a colleague of Tareq told Gulf News on condition of anonymity.
His father is a dean with a private university in Muscat and was reportedly out of Oman when the tragedy struck the family. The father was expected to return home Monday.
Last week, two accidents in different places killed 12 people in what is believed to be tired drivers dozing off at the wheel.
The police in Oman have repeatedly urged drivers to take proper rest and if they fell tired or sleepy to park by the side of the road and take a nap before resuming driving.
