Oman woman bags award for best veterinarian in GCC

Award recognises role in protecting health of livestock

Muscat: Dr Samah Bint Mahmoud Al Sharif has won the award for the best veterinarian in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries recently, a leading Arabic news site in Oman reported. The award, which is in its 12th edition, was launched under the auspices of Almarai Company and in partnership with King Faisal University in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia.

The award is presented annually under the supervision of the Saudi Veterinary Medical Association emphasises the effective role of the veterinary doctors in Saudi Arabia as well as in the GCC, in protecting the health of livestock. The award also effectively promotes the promise this profession holds, by bringing the focus on this event.

Dr Al Sharif received the award at a ceremony held on December 10 in Jizan, Saudi Arabia, which she said was an appreciation of her distinguished role that had a great impact on the development of veterinary services in the Sultanate. She said such awards are indeed a great motivation to put in more effort in this field and to make a difference.

Dr Al Sharif is the first Omani veterinarian, and she works in the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources as the Head of the Veterinary Quarantine Department at Muscat International Airport.
