Muscat: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has impounded 7,344 kilos of expired fish from a company’s warehouse in Nizwa, 106km northeast of Muscat.
According to a press release issued by the PACP, the frozen fish stock impounded by them was unfit for human consumption. “The stock was well past its sell-by date,” a spokesman for the PACP said.
The PACP raids were carried out following complaints from consumers that rotten fish was being sold by the company in question. The public authority did not divulge the name of the company.
“The frozen merchandise bore sell-by labels dating to January, March, April and November of last year,” he added.
In addition, the PACP inspectors also impounded 945 kilos of frozen fish that was only a day away from expiry. The confiscated stocks were found concealed under cartons of frozen fish that were labelled well within their sell-by dates.
