Gang leader held on charges of causing riots in Sohar

Suspect has admitted his involvement in protests, say security agencies

Muscat: An Omani national has been arrested by security agencies in Sohar on the charge of forming a gang with the intention of triggering riots.

Khalfan Bin Saeed Bin Mohammad Al Kabbali has been arrested for allegedly forming the "Gang of Dragon" to cause riots, sabotage and attacks on properties in the industrial port town of Sohar, 230km north to Muscat.

He has also been charged with manufacturing explosives and combustible materials.

The accused, according to security agencies, has admitted his involvement in protests that took place in Sohar in the recent past, reports Oman News Agency.

Some of the gang members have also been held.
