Expatriate arrested for fraud in Oman

The accused said to have swindled 30,000 rials from would-be holidaymakers

Muscat: An Asian expatriate has been arrested on fraud charges in Oman’s Buraimi province close to the UAE border.

The accused, who works in a travel agency, booked fake air tickets for 25 people, according to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

He made the victims believe all the reservations procedures for regional and international destinations had been completed.

When the victims headed to Muscat International Airport it turned out no reservations had been made under their names.

The accused is said to have swindled more than 30,000 rials (Dh286,256) from his victims. Following a manhunt he was arrested and referred to the public prosecutor.
