COVID-19: Oman records 1,145 new cases, 4 deaths

Cairo: Oman Friday confirmed 1,145 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s total infections to 73,791, the Omani news agency ONA reported, citing the Health Ministry.

The newly diagnosed cases include 1,047 Omanis and 98 foreign residents, the ministry said.

Four new deaths from COVID-19 have taken Oman’s total such fatalities to 359.

The country’s overall recoveries from the disease have reached 53,007, the ministry added in an update.

In recent weeks, Oman has seen a spike in the virus infections, prompting authorities to tighten preventive measures.

Oman will impose a full lockdown among its governorates for two weeks starting from Saturday until August 8.

During that period, movement of people will be prohibited as well as all public places and shops will be closed from 7pm to 6am daily. The lockdown includes Eid Al Adha holiday.

As part of the latest restrictions, all forms of gatherings, including the Eid prayers, greetings and traditional markets, are banned.
