Senior Kuwait officials interrogated on suspicion of corruption

Abu Dhabi: A former assistant under-secretary at the Ministry of Electricity and five other senior officials were referred to Kuwait’s Anti-Corruption Commission for interrogation on suspicions of corruption, said Dr Khaled Al Fadhil, Minister of Electricity.

“The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity’s fact-finding committee, on suspicion of misappropriation of public funds, has recommended that a former assistant under-secretary and five supervisors (former and current) be referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission,” Al Fadhil, also Minister of Oil, tweeted.

The committee delivered its reports late on Friday evening, in keeping with the deadline. Al Fadhil indicated that the report will be taken up for discussion on Sunday morning, in addition to technical recommendations that will be assigned to officials concerned in the ministry for its implementation.

On Thursday, June 11, the minister announced that he had received a report from engineer Maha Al Asousi, the assistant under-secretary, for monitoring and control centres at the Ministry of Electricity and Water, containing suspicions of misappropriation of public funds, and accordingly, the minister set up a fact-finding committee.
