Dubai: Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority has warned that people who throw leftover food in public places, even with the intention of feeding animals such as birds and stray cats, risk fines of up to 500 Kuwaiti dinars ($1,625) under the country’s environmental protection law.

In a statement posted on its official account on X, the authority said the practice, which has circulated widely on social media, violates Law No. 42 of 2014 on environmental protection, as amended by Law No. 99 of 2015. Article 33 of the legislation explicitly prohibits dumping waste of any kind outside designated containers.

The authority stressed that while many see feeding animals as a charitable act, discarding food in public spaces poses risks to hygiene, public health and the environment. It urged both citizens and residents to comply with the law, maintain cleanliness, and help protect the community and natural surroundings.
