Countries in the Arab region invest around $4billion each year in advertising, which was the main drive behind the creation of the Kuwait Award for Arab Excellence in Advertisement, said an official from the Consulate General of Kuwait.

"The award is to encourage organisations and people both in the public and private sectors within the Arab region to strive for the best results in the field of advertising," Isam Shanti, Information Consultant at the Consulate told Gulf News.

"The Arab world invests a great deal of money every year on advertisements, which was one of the main factors that encouraged the Centre of Excellence at the University of Kuwait to create the award," he said.

The statements came following a press conference held on Wednesday by members of the Public Relations Committee of the University of Kuwait, who are currently touring the region to promote the award.

The awards, which will be announced in October in Kuwait, are in three categories of print, television and radio advertisements.

The winners in each category will be judged by a panel of 15 judges from various Arab countries.

"The award will be an annual event. Kuwait is spearheading this initiative in an effort to improve the advertising field in the region," Shanti said.

Omar Al Houtti, Chairman of the Public Relation Committee at the University of Kuwait, is heading the delegation.
