Initiative to ensure these women continue to receive same legal and social treatment
Kuwait: The Kuwaiti Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) will soon begin issuing civil ID cards for expatriate wives of Kuwaitis who had their nationality revoked.
This initiative represents a significant step in ensuring that these women continue to receive the same legal and social treatment, granting them access to essential services and rights they previously held.
The new civil ID cards, valid for five years, will provide long-term official identification. Unlike standard ID cards, these will omit the nationality field, ensuring that no specific nationality is stated. Instead, the phrase “Treated as a Kuwaiti” will be prominently displayed, formally recognising their status while respecting their situation.
By obtaining a civil ID card, these women will no longer have to worry about their identity being questioned. The official recognition provides them with a sense of security and stability, significantly improving their standard of living and overall quality of life in Kuwait.
This initiative ensures that they are treated fairly and continue to enjoy the same basic rights as others living in the country. It also marks a progressive step toward making Kuwait more inclusive while acknowledging the unique challenges some women face due to nationality-related issues.
While authorities have yet to clarify whether additional measures will be introduced, this decision marks a notable development in resolving legal uncertainties surrounding the issue.
