Cairo: A Kuwaiti court has sentenced three people to 10 years in prison each in a high-profile case linked to fabricating a drug case against an expatriate doctor and illegally detaining him.

The Criminal Court convicted the three on charges of kidnapping, illegal detention, forgery of an arrest report and possession of a narcotic substance, Kuwaiti media reported. The convicts are two policemen and an expatriate.

The court acquitted three others.

Last November, prosecutors ordered the detention of six individuals, including two Kuwaitis and four foreigners, for allegedly fabricating a drug possession case against the medical professional.

The prosecutors stated that two of the accused, who are members of the Interior Ministry personnel, stopped the victim, placed narcotic and psychotropic substances in his vehicle, and falsified an arrest report against him in collusion with the others with the aim of deporting him from the country.

During investigations, the doctor denied that the seized substances belonged to him and insisted that he did not use drugs.

The two policemen were summoned and admitted during interrogation that they had placed a narcotic substance into his vehicle to implicate him in a drug case at the incitement of another person.

When the alleged inciter was summoned, he admitted that his wife, a work colleague of the doctor, had told him that a female doctor, who works with her, had a dispute with the doctor and decided to take revenge on him.

Therefore, the nurse’s husband brought a piece of hashish and asked the soldiers to put it into the doctor’s vehicle.
