Cairo: Bahrain’s longest-serving prime minister Khalifa Bin Salman, who died this week in the US, was buried Friday in the homeland.
He was buried in a tomb in the city of Al Riffa. His funeral was attended by Bahraini Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman Bin Hamad, and senior members of the ruling family as well as commanders of the kingdom’s army and security forces, Bahrain’s news agency BNA reported.
Earlier Friday, Bahraini King Hamad Bin Isa and key members of the ruling family performed a funeral prayer for the late prime minister in a mosque in Al Riffa.
Khalifa died Wednesday in a US hospital aged 84. He was an influential contributor to Bahrain’s modern development.
King Hamad has declared a week of mourning and ordered lowering the national flag and suspending work at government institutions for three days in mourning over Khalifa’s death.
