Cairo: A building has collapsed in Bahrain, leaving one person dead and four others injured, the official news agency BNA has reported.
The Bahraini civil defence personnel were able to rescue two Asians from under the rubble of the building that had collapsed apparently due to a gas explosion.
The Civil Defence authorities in cooperation with relevant departments at the Interior Ministry handled the incident and worked to secure the site and facilitate traffic in its vicinity in the Arad area in the Muharraq governorate.
The building, which collapsed Wednesday night, housed shops and residential apartments. Seven civil defence vehicles and 38 rescue personnel were dispatched to the site and immediately embarked on measures to contain the repercussions of the collapse. Meanwhile, the National Ambulance service transported the injured to the hospital.
Initial information indicated that the building collapse was caused by a gas cylinder explosion, BNA said.
The agency carried photos showing civil defence personnel working on the site amid rubble and a damaged car in the aftermath of the collapse.
The owner of the building was summoned for questioning.
Investigation and search are ongoing to uncover the circumstances, determine the actual causes of the collapse, and take the necessary legal measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
