Moscow: A Russian fighter jet crashed in southern Siberia on Friday, but its pilot bailed out safely, an Air Force spokesman said.
Dmitry Feofanov said the MiG-29 crashed Friday in the Chita region while on a training flight. He said the jet's pilot ejected safely and is in a satisfactory condition.
Feofanov said the Air Force has grounded its MiG-29s until an investigative panel has determined the cause of the crash.
The twin-engined MiG-29 is a mainstay of the Russian Air Force.
