Filipino baby rushed to hospital after London high-rise inferno

LONDON: A 7-month-old baby girl who showed signs of suffocation and drowsiness was rushed to a London hospital following a fire that razed a 24-story building on Wednesday. 

The baby and her parents were reportedly living  in London's Grenfell Tower that went up in flame early on Wednesday.

The Philippine Embassy in London earlier reported that several Filipinos were among 70 people hurt in the incident.

ABS-CBN Europe News bureau chief Danny Buenafe quoted a Filipina nurse who said the baby is well.

Senen Mangalile, consul general of the Philippine Embassy in London, confirmed the report.

“A Filipina baby was brought to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but yeah, the baby is now well and set to be discharged and reunited with the parents,” Mangalile told ABS-CBN News Channel.

Buenafe quoted a source as saying the Filipino residents were known to live in the upper floors of the tower.

Meanwhile, some of the tower's Filipino residents are staying now at an evacuation center in Rugby Clubs, Notting Hill. 

Consul Mangalile said they are still collating information on the Filipino victims.

“What we would not want to do is to double count," the channel quoted Mangalile as saying.
