Victims were in a meeting after attending Sunday service
Manila: A still undetermined number of people were hurt after an explosion rocked a Protestant church in Quezon City on Sunday afternoon.
Police said most of those hurt were members of the United Methodist Church in Kamuning district who were holding a meeting after attending Sunday service.
"There were a number of people injured who were rushed to nearby hospitals," a police officer was quoted by Bombo Radyo.
The explosion happened at a time when the streets were deserted as most people were watching the boxing match between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and Puerto Rican champion Miguel Cotto.
Authorities are eyeing the possibility that the blast was caused by a fragmentation grenades.
The explosion came nearly a week after two pre-dawn explosions occurred at the head office of food and beverage giant San Miguel Corporation in Mandaluyong City and at the PureGold supermarket also in Quezon City.
There were no reported casualties in the two incidents.
