La Trinidad, Benguet: A grenade blast in front of the Tabuk City hall on Sunday killed one and injured 18 others on the eve of city's first anniversary.

Authorities identified the blast victim as Redentor Bayangan.

Cordillera region police director Eugene Martin said it could not be ascertained if the blast was an accident or intentional.

Tabuk, which became a city in June last year, is preparing for a Guinness Book entry. On Tuesday, the residents are expected to queue up for rice cooked in bamboo hollows.

Organisers of the event said they are aiming for Tabuk to be accorded the title "Hybrid Rice Capital of the Philippines".

Tabuk is the top supplier of hybrid rice seeds in Northern and Central Luzon, according to the Philippine Rice Institute.
