Manila: Nine people, including the drivers of a bus, an oil tanker, and a motorcycle were killed during a collision in central Luzon early on Wednesday, a TV report said.

The driver of the Victory Liner bus, identified as Bayan Kamangig, and five passengers died after it collided with the oil tanker at Maharlika Road, Bantog Village, senior superintendent Walter Callejos said in a TV interview.

Also killed were Silvino Marzo, driver of the oil tanker, and Leoncio and Evangeline Marillo who were on a motorcycle that the driver of the Victory Liner tried to evade, but which resulted in the tragic head-on collision with the oil tanker, said Callejos.

The eleven bus passengers who were injured were brought to a nearby hospital for treatment, said Callejos, adding that firefighters succeeded in preventing further chaos after fuel spilled from the oil tanker during the collision.

The bus, which carried 46 passengers, was bound for Manila, while the oil tanker was headed in the opposite direction.

The assistant driver of the fuel tanker and the bus conductor were questioned at a local police station, to assist in the investigation of the incident.
