They glow at the night and bear the ajrak design, traditional shawl of Sindh

Karachi: After a delay of several years, the Sindh government has finally launched new registration plates for vehicles. These plates contain special security features.
The new registration plates are retro-reflective (they glow at the night) and bear the ajrak design a, the traditional shawl of Sindh that represents its culture. The National Radio and Telecommunications Corporation helped the Sindh government in launching the new plates.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that a number of security features were part of the new registration plates.
He said that an aluminium sheet and a barcode for each of the registration plates were two key features of the plates. He said the security features didn’t allow anyone to make a duplicate of these registration plates.
He said soon the traffic police will be given special devices to obtain all the necessary details about the vehicles through these new number plates, adding that such a mechanism would make it easy for the police to spot stolen vehicles on the roads.
Chawla expressed gratitude to the Sindh High Court for helping out the provincial government in launching the new registration plates.
He said that in the first phase the new plates were being given to the vehicle owners applying for fresh registrations.
He said the Excise and Taxation Department had been improving its services, and a step in this direction was the introduction of the online facility for paying vehicular taxes.
