The United States has temporarily restricted its government personnel from visiting upscale hotels in Karachi, Pakistan, following a reported threat targeting these establishments. The move was confirmed in a security alert issued Friday by the US State Department.

In response, the US Consulate General in Karachi has suspended all official visits to these properties. The State Department said such restrictions are routine when credible threats to American personnel or interests emerge abroad.

No change in overall travel advisory

Despite the alert, the broader travel advisory for Pakistan remains unchanged. US citizens are still urged to reconsider travel to the country due to terrorism risks and the possibility of armed conflict, as reported by Reuters.

Public urged to stay alert

The State Department advised US nationals to avoid crowded areas, maintain a low profile, and remain vigilant—particularly in places frequented by Westerners and tourists.

It also warned that similar restrictions could be extended to public venues like malls, markets, and restaurants if further threats arise.
