Pakistan: Sindh’s simplifies property inheritance documents to speed up process

Karachi: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in Sindh will soon issue two legal documents required for property inheritance, replacing a tedious judicial process which could last up to five years.

The Sindh government has taken the lead in the country by simplifying and accelerating the procedure of property inheritance as the legal heirs, after death of the head of family, will no more be required to move the court to get entitlement of the inherited properties.

The government passed the required legislation to empower the Nadra to speedily issue the Letter of Administration and Succession Certificate, the two legal documents, which are required by the legal heirs to complete the procedures. As of now, the courts are to issue these legal documents after a lengthy procedure.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah launched the single window operation system, which will begin its operations in 15 days, to issue the Succession Certificate and Letter of Administration, at the Nadra’s mega centre in Defence Housing Authority area of Karachi.

The courts take a much prolonged time — three months to a maximum of five years to issue the documents.

Shah said that Sindh, which had joined hands with the Nadra to launch the system, had become the first province in the country.

He said the Supreme Court had earlier declared that the issuance of succession certificates accounted for up to 30 per cent of the judicial workload in the country.

He said that a few documents were now required to submit the application to Nadra office to get the certificate.
