Dubai: Lahore’s own Arslan ‘Ash’ Siddique has once again risen to the pinnacle of the fighting game world, clinching his sixth Evolution Championship Series (EVO) title at EVO 2025 held in Las Vegas.

The Tekken maestro defeated fellow Pakistani and former teammate Atif Butt in a thrilling final, showcasing why he is widely regarded as the greatest Tekken player of all time.

Tekken is one of the most popular and enduring fighting game franchises globally, first released in 1994 by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Known for its deep and complex combat system, diverse roster of characters, and high-level competitive scene, Tekken requires a combination of strategy, reflexes, and mind games. Its global tournaments attract millions of viewers and some of the best players in the world, making victory in Tekken competitions like EVO a highly coveted achievement.

Who is Ash

Ash’s journey from a modest gaming arcade in Lahore to global esports stardom is nothing short of extraordinary. Growing up in a country where esports infrastructure is still developing, Ash’s rise proves that raw talent and relentless dedication can break barriers. Starting to play Tekken at just eight years old, Ash went on to dominate Pakistan’s competitive scene before making his mark internationally.

The significance of Ash’s sixth EVO title goes beyond the trophy count. EVO is the world’s biggest and most prestigious fighting game tournament, attracting the best players globally. Winning once is a career-defining achievement, winning six times is almost unheard of, setting Ash apart as a living legend. His victories in both EVO Japan and EVO USA show his adaptability and consistency on the highest stage, solidifying his legacy in a fiercely competitive esports discipline.

Pakistan's dominance

At EVO 2025, held from August 1-3 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, Ash’s victory against Atif Butt who himself is a top-tier player, highlighted a new era of Pakistani dominance in the global Tekken community.

EVO’s social media called it “greatness on another level,” praising the intense rivalry where Ash’s Nina Williams faced Butt’s Anna Williams, sisters in the game’s lore, adding a dramatic layer to the finals.

His esports club, Saudi Arabia’s Twisted Minds, echoed this sentiment, calling Ash the “undisputed GOAT of Tekken” and praising his continued path toward world championship glory.

Eight hours daily practice

Arslan Ash’s story resonates beyond esports circles. In a country where gaming is often seen as a hobby rather than a career, his achievements symbolise hope and a shift in perception. Ash’s success inspires young gamers in Pakistan and across the world to pursue their passion with dedication. His relentless eight-hour daily practice routine and strategic gameplay continue to push the boundaries of competitive Tekken.

From winning Pakistan’s Tekken 6 Grand Masters Championship in 2010 to becoming ESPN’s Esports Player of the Year, Ash’s journey is a testament to what can be achieved with talent, hard work, and belief.

His sixth EVO championship is not just another title, it is a historic moment for esports, a beacon for emerging players from developing regions, and a proud milestone for Pakistan on the global stage.
