Dubai: Pakistani biotech startup Bioniks has successfully fitted its first prosthetic limb in Gaza.
A young Palestinian girl Sidra who lost her arm during the conflict, got the first brain-controlled limb.
This achievement was made possible through a strategic collaboration between Karachi based Bioniks and Mafaz, based in Jordan. The initiative marks the beginning of a long-term mission to support amputees in war-affected regions.
“Sidra’s journey is one of thousands, a story of unimaginable loss, but also one of courage and rebirth,” said Anas Niaz, CEO of Bioniks.
“We believe mobility is a right, not a privilege. No one should be left behind, he said in a statement.
Bioniks statement reads: "This marks the beginning of Bioniks' mission to support amputees in Gaza. Sidra's journey reflects the resilience of so many in Gaza.
"We believe that no one should be left behind when it comes to mobility and dignity. Through this initiative, our goal is to reach more children and adults affected by war with customized prosthetic limbs and long-term care.
"In a place where conflict has taken so much, Bioniks is working to give something back; mobility, confidence, hope, dignity, and independence."
Brain-controlled limbs
Bioniks is a pioneer in biomechatronics, specialises in hardware-based, brain-controlled prosthetic limbs. Their mission is to restore not just physical capability, but also hope, confidence, dignity, and independence to those who’ve lost limbs due to war or accident.
The journey that led to this moment began humbly with a single email that landed in a spam folder. A desperate plea from a parent: “Can you make a prosthetic arm for my son?” That message sparked a response that would grow into a movement , transforming lives across borders.
New mission
Now, Bioniks is turning its attention to Gaza, where countless children and adults are in urgent need of mobility solutions and long-term care. Their initiative aims to deliver customised prosthetics, tailored therapy, and continuous support to those who need it most.
“In a place where conflict has taken so much, we want to give something back. We aree giving people the power to write their own future,” added Niazi.
Call for help
This is only the beginning. Bioniks and Mafaz are calling on partners, donors, and supporters to help expand the reach of this program ensuring that Sidra is not the first and the last child in Gaza to receive a new beginning.
“Some moments are bigger than announcements. Our first step changed Sidra’s life. Help us ensure she’s not the last,” Bioniks tweeted.
