Greek man arrested for bid to smuggle gun onto Dubai flight

Karachi: Security officers at a Pakistan airport have arrested a Greek man on accusations he tried to smuggle a handgun hidden in a laptop onto a plane.

Airport security official Col. Jamshed Hayat Niazi says the man was arrested at the Karachi airport Sunday as he tried to board a flight to Dubai, where he was to catch another plane to Athens.

Niazi says officials found a 9 mm pistol concealed in the laptop's battery compartment as luggage passed through a security scanner.

He says police are interrogating the man. He declines to identify him or say whether the gun was part of a hijacking attempt.
