Official: Taliban cleared from outskirts of Kandahar

Kandahar: Taliban fighters have been completely driven out from the outskirts of Kandahar city, the provincial governor said on Thursday.

Afghan and Nato-led forces successfully cleared out Taliban militants from the restive region, Assadullah Khalid said at a news conference in Kandahar city.

"The Taliban have been cleared totally from Arghandab district," Assadullah Khalid told a news conference in Kandahar city.

Hundreds of the insurgents were either killed or injured in the operation, he added.

"They have suffered hundreds of dead and wounded and many of their casualties are Pakistanis," he said.
