Male: A former Maldivian political prisoner has unseated Asia's longest-serving leader, winning 54.2 percent of a runoff vote to decide the presidency of the tropical Indian Ocean archipelago, election officials said on
Wednesday.

With all 179,343 votes counted, Mohamed "Anni" Nasheed had 54.2 percent against 45.8 percent for 30-year incumbent President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Election Commissioner Mohamed Ibrahim said, citing provisional figures.
