In a shocking incident, seven members of a family, including three minors, were found dead in a car parked on a vacant plot in Sector 27 of Panchkula, Haryana, on Tuesday. Initial findings indicate that financial distress may have driven the family to take their own lives, according to local media reports.

According to police officials, the deceased include two minor girls aged between 12 and 13, their 14-year-old brother, their parents, and grandparents. All seven were discovered inside a parked car with its rear windshield covered with a towel, possibly to prevent visibility from outside.

Only one initially survived

Additional Commissioner of Police Vikram Nehra stated that when the victims were first taken to Ojas Hospital in Panchkula, only the children’s father was found to be alive. However, he succumbed to his condition during treatment.

The police have identified two of the deceased as Praveen Mittal, who was reportedly running a tour and travel business in Dehradun, and his father Deshraj Mittal. Preliminary inquiries indicate that the family had been grappling with significant financial losses, which may have pushed them to take this tragic step.

Investigation underway

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Panchkula) Himadri Kaushik, who visited the scene, confirmed that all seven deceased were from the same family. “When we reached the hospital, we were informed that six people brought to Ojas Hospital had died. Another person, who was brought to Civil Hospital in Sector 6, was also declared dead,” she said. “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. All relevant teams are at the site, and a detailed investigation is ongoing.”

The family reportedly had been residing in Chandigarh before shifting to Uttarakhand. A case has been registered, and police are examining all angles to determine the exact cause behind the deaths.
