Kolkata: Police say at least 21 people have died in a road crash in eastern India.
Surajit Kar Purakayastha, inspector-general of police, says most of the victims were in a bus that collided head-on with a tractor-driven carriage on the outskirts of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state, on Sunday.
Some people might have been traveling in the tractor-driven carriage as well, he said.
Rescuers used gas cutters to open the mangled frame of the bus to remove the bodies.
Overloading in aging vehicles and reckless driving on bad roads often lead to accidents in India.
