Thiruvananthapuram: Upcoming Malayalam matinee idol Prithviraj got a significant boost, winning the best actor award announced by the Kerala government yesterday.

The best actress award was picked up by Urvashi, who has time and again proven her acting prowess with a number of memorable performances.

The awards were announced by minister for culture, M.A. Baby yesterday. M.P. Sukumaran Nair's Drishtantham was selected the best film and Lenin Rajendran, who directed the movie Rathri Mazha, was selected the best director.

Dispute

Following the announcement of the awards, Sasi Paravoor, the director of the movie, Nottam, said he would file a case against the decision to confer the award on Drishtantham, alleging that the movie was based on his movie, Nottam.

Sukumaran Nair said he welcomed Sasi Paravoor's decision, stating that the court would be able to decide who really owned the storyline of the movie.

Prithviraj won the award for his performance in Vaasthavam, while Urvashi got the honour for her performance in Madhuchandralekha.
