New Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy denied reports that two ministers in his cabinet were fighting for one car.

"There is no such controversy, and the general policy is that we will not go for luxury cars considering the financial situation of the government", he said. "There is not going to be any explicit orders to the cabinet ministers not to buy luxury cars, but I would want them to practice austerity on their own."

When pointed out that such trust placed by former chief minister A.K. Antony in his cabinet colleagues was misplaced, Chandy said the ministers in the Antony cabinet used expensive cars only because the cars had already been purchased by the previous government.
