Mumbai, 18th August – Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Mumbai on Monday, bringing traffic to a standstill and causing widespread waterlogging across the city.

Traffic movement was severely affected on the Western Express Highway near Vile Parle, while waterlogging was also reported in Sion’s Gandhi Market area and other low-lying zones.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a post on its official X handle, confirmed that Mumbai and adjoining suburbs experienced moderate to heavy rainfall over the past few hours. Earlier, around 2 a.m. on Monday, the IMD had forecast heavy showers across the city and suburbs during the next 3–4 hours.

Member of Parliament Varsha Eknath Gaikwad shared the video on X with the caption, “Kudos to the Mumbai Police for acting quickly to rescue these little ones whose school bus was stuck on a flooded road in Matunga.”

On Sunday, the IMD had also issued a flash flood alert for Maharashtra’s Konkan region, including Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and suburban Mumbai districts. The alert warned of the likelihood of flash floods in several areas amid the ongoing heavy downpour.

Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution as the city continues to witness intermittent heavy showers.
