Kolkata: Legendary magician P.C. Sorcar Jr yesterday passed on the family legacy to his eldest daughter Maneka by handing over the magic wand ceremonially.
Sorcar Jr announced that Maneka, the eldest of his three daughters, would foster the magical tradition of the Sorcar dynasty in her own way.
"With the advancement of time, we should always welcome our next generation to shoulder responsibility. Though I am not retiring from the world of magic, I am passing on our family legacy to my daughter so that she can take it forward responsibly," he told IANS. Sorcar Jr is the second son of the late P.C. Sorcar. The Sorcar family has been synonymous with magic for at least eight generations. "When I opted to carry on the tradition in 1971 after my father died of a cardiac arrest while performing in Japan, there was literally no one who could guide me properly. To this day, I feel the helplessness of that initial phase.
"I don't want the same thing to happen to the next generation," he said.
"I am sure that Maneka will prove a competent successor in the Sorcar tradition," the elated father said.
Maneka chose magic as her profession after completing her MBA degree.
"I have imbibed this art entirely from my father. I chose it not because of the glamour associated with it but because of an intense fascination," she said.
