Bihar, India: In a swift crackdown, Gaya Police arrested two men within hours of receiving a complaint about the alleged rape of a female home guard recruitment candidate inside an ambulance.

According to police, the incident took place on July 24 in the jurisdiction of Bodh Gaya police station. The woman had fainted during the race and was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance stationed at the event site.

On the way, she alleged that the ambulance driver and technician sexually assaulted her.

CCTV, medical reports used to identify suspects

Taking immediate cognisance, Gaya’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) formed a special investigation team, headed by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bodh Gaya, under the supervision of the City Superintendent of Police.

A forensic team was also dispatched to the location to collect evidence. CCTV footage and the victim’s medical examination provided crucial leads. Her statement was recorded, based on which the accused were identified as Vinay Kumar (ambulance driver) and Ajit Kumar (technician).

Both were arrested, and an FIR has been registered.
