At least four children were killed and several others are feared trapped after a government school building collapsed in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 8:30am (local time) at Piplodi Government School in Manohar Thana, where about 40 students, teachers, and staff were reportedly present when the single-storey structure gave way.
Shocking visuals from the site showed residents frantically pulling debris to rescue those stuck under the rubble. District officials, disaster response teams (NDRF), and medical personnel are at the scene conducting rescue operations.
Sources said the school building was in a visibly dangerous condition, and multiple complaints about its structural safety had been made in the past. Despite this, no action was taken—a failure that has now cost young lives.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief and called the incident "deeply painful." He has ordered a high-level inquiry and promised strict action against those responsible for the negligence.
The tragedy has triggered anger among families and local residents, who say repeated appeals for repairs were ignored. As rescue efforts continue, anxious parents wait at the site, hoping their children will be pulled out alive.
