Dalai Lama rules out retirement, says Tibetans facing 'great danger'

Dharamsala: The Dalai Lama said on Sunday he will not retire, quashing speculation about the future of the 73-year-old exiled spiritual leader.

"There is no point, or question of retirement," the Tibetan spiritual leader told a news conference.

He also said he was losing trust in Chinese officials and that the Tibetan people were facing "great danger."

"In the next 20 years, if we are not careful in our actions and planning, then there is great danger to the Tibetan community," he told a gathering of Tibetan exiles in northern India.

"We must try to think of innovative ways to sustain the Tibetan people," he said.
