Srinagar: Authorities on Tuesday lifted a nine-day curfew imposed on areas in the troubled Indian Kashmir.

Schools and government offices reopened and vehicles were back on the streets as security forces removed road blocks across the Kashmir Valley.

Masud Samoon, the divisional commissioner, said the indefinite curfew has been lifted, but it "can be re-imposed if the situation so warranted."

Hindu activists ended two months of protests over the weekend after a Hindu pilgrimage dispute triggered mass protests against Indian rule in the Muslim-majority region.
