60 Taliban killed in strike

Kabul: Overnight air strikes on two rebel bases in southern Afghanistan killed 60 Taliban fighters, including three commanders, police sources said on Tuesday.

The reports said that a joint operation involving Afghan and foreign security services took place in the Zharai district of Kandahar.

The strikes targeted a gathering of Taliban fighters late on Monday, and were followed by ground troops who entered villages in the province on Tuesday, they said.

NATO and the US military have yet to confirm the reports.
