Brazil prisoners train mouse to carry drugs

RIO DE JANEIRO: Police busted inmates in a Brazilian jail who trained a mouse to move drugs around their prison by tying them to its tail, an official said Thursday.

Officers spotted the small grey rodent with a hook tied to its tail during a routine inspection last Friday, said Gean Carlos Gomes, director of the facility in the northern state of Tocantins.

“He was so tame he let his head be stroked,” Gomes said.

“Then the officers noticed that the mouse was going from cellblock A to cellblock C. The prisoners had tied a wire to its tail and were using it to carry drugs and other objects, such as a mobile telephone chip.”

Police searched the cells and found cocaine and marijuana.

They will examine security camera footage to try to identify the mouse’s master.

The mouse was released in a forest near the prison.
